Fire Door Inspection Software Guide - Coming Soon
This guide explains what fire door inspection software needs to document under NFPA 80. FireInspected currently supports NFPA 10 portable fire extinguisher workflows; fire door support is planned.
What an NFPA 80 fire door workflow needs
NFPA 80 (Standard for Fire Doors and Other Opening Protectives) covers inspection of fire-rated door assemblies. A useful workflow would document the applicable points, measurements, deficiencies, photos, and reports; FireInspected does not currently provide that workflow.
What NFPA 80 requires you to inspect
- Door clearances and gaps - Verify gaps around the door and at the bottom meet NFPA 80 tolerances (typically 1/8" for steel doors, 1/8" maximum under the door)
- Latching hardware - Confirm the door latches positively and the latch throw is sufficient to secure the door in the frame
- Self-closing device testing - Verify the door closer closes the door from any open position and latches without assistance
- Door coordinator function - For pairs of doors, verify the active leaf closes before the inactive leaf in the correct sequence
- Gasketing and edge seals - Inspect intumescent seals, smoke gaskets, and edge seals for damage, gaps, or missing sections
Additional NFPA 80 inspection points
- Hinges and hardware - Check for loose screws, missing fasteners, bent hinges, or non-compliant field modifications
- Glazing and vision panels - Verify fire-rated glazing beads, labels, and no cracks or damage to glass panels
- Door labels - Confirm the fire-rated label is present, legible, and matches the door assembly specifications
- Wall and frame conditions - Check for gaps between the frame and surrounding wall, which can compromise the fire barrier
- Photo documentation of all deficiencies - Each deficiency is photographed and attached to the inspection record for AHJ review
